The programme begins with the Introduction to Community Development module, which examines the philosophy, history and principles that shape community work in Ireland. Alongside this, the Group Dynamics and Development module gives students practical experience in facilitating groups, managing conflict and applying ethical standards.

Students attend one day of on-campus lectures each week, totalling around four contact hours, and are expected to devote about ten hours to independent study. Assessment is entirely continuous, based on assignments and class participation, and the 15-week part-time schedule is delivered on the Letterkenny campus. The certificate carries AIEB accreditation, confirming it meets national standards for community work education.
