The Doctoral Degree Program in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Oulu prepares graduates for demanding expert roles across academia, industry, and the public sector. Completing the program leads to either a Doctor of Science (Technology) or a Doctor of Philosophy degree, and the program runs over four years starting in January 2026. Research in the program spans a broad range of computing disciplines, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, machine vision, data science, biomedical engineering, cyber and information security, robotics, human-computer interaction, distributed and edge computing, ubiquitous computing, crowd computing, design research, perception engineering, and XR/AR/VR. This breadth reflects the program's genuinely multidisciplinary character. Research is carried out within three units in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering: the Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Group, the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis, and the Center for Ubiquitous Computing. These units provide the institutional context for doctoral training and international collaboration. The program is based at the University of Oulu in Oulu, Finland.
