Computer Science at the Università degli Studi di Salerno is a two-year master's program taught in English in Fisciano - Salerno, Italy. The discipline covers the theoretical foundations and practical techniques behind computing systems, spanning algorithms, data structures, software engineering, computer architecture, and networking. At the master's level, study typically deepens into more specialized areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, distributed systems, databases, and cybersecurity, building on foundational programming and mathematical skills. Students learn to design efficient algorithms, build and evaluate software systems, and reason formally about computation, while also gaining hands-on experience developing applications and working with modern development tools and frameworks. Coursework often includes both theoretical modules, such as computational complexity and formal methods, and applied projects that require designing working systems to solve real problems. Because computing underpins nearly every modern industry, the field offers broad career flexibility. Graduates commonly move into roles such as software developer, systems architect, data scientist, or machine learning engineer, working across sectors including finance, healthcare, telecommunications, and technology firms of all sizes. Others pursue research careers, continuing into doctoral study to work on advances in areas like artificial intelligence, security, or distributed computing. The field also supports entrepreneurial paths, as many computer science graduates go on to build their own software products or startups. A master's degree in computer science typically signals depth in a chosen specialization alongside strong general computing skills, making graduates competitive for both technical and increasingly for technical leadership roles. The program's English-language instruction reflects the international nature of the software and technology industry it prepares students for.
