Counselling Studies

Counselling studies examine how therapeutic relationships help individuals navigate mental health challenges, relationship difficulties and life transitions. The field asks how different theoretical models—from person-centred to cognitive-behavioural—inform practice, and how ethics, power and cultural diversity shape the helping process. It also explores how ethical considerations and cultural competence influence therapeutic outcomes.

The programme runs for 1.5 years on a part-time blended format. It is divided into three semesters, each offering five mandatory modules that total 60 credits. Early modules focus on counselling skills and cognitive-behavioural approaches, followed by humanistic, existential and constructivist perspectives, body-centred techniques and psychodynamic relational theory. Modules combine lectures, experiential workshops and reflective journals, preparing graduates for roles in health care, social care, education and the voluntary sector.
