PhD in Course of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Tokushima, Japan Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Course of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a three-year doctoral program at Tokushima University in Tokushima, Japan, taught in English, with entry in April. Offered through Tokushima University's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the Kuramoto campus, the doctoral course covers pharmaceutical sciences, including drug design, pharmacology, and the chemical and biological study of therapeutic compounds. Doctoral candidates work with faculty supervisors to design and carry out original research, analyze data, and complete a dissertation addressing a question in pharmaceutical science. Tokushima University was established as a national university in 1949 and today has about 7,600 students and about 2,400 staff members across two campuses. The Josanjima campus houses the Faculty of Integrated Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Bioscience and Bioindustry, and the Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation, and it trains engineers and other specialists while carrying out research in each of those areas. The Kuramoto campus houses the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with five graduate schools covering Medical Sciences, Nutrition and Biosciences, Oral Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Health Science. Graduates of a doctoral program in pharmaceutical sciences typically pursue research careers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, academic pharmacology and drug discovery laboratories, or regulatory and public health agencies. Admission requires an English proficiency score from TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS, together with document screening and an interview. Because instruction is delivered in English over three years, and pre-arrival admission procedures are available, doctoral researchers from outside Japan can begin preparing for the move to Tokushima before relocating.
