CPGE - PCSI

CPGE — PCSI (Physique, Chimie et Sciences de l'Ingénieur) is a two-year non-degree preparatory programme taught in French at the Ecole des Pupilles de l'Air — lycée de la défense in Montbonnot-Saint-Martin, France, starting in September. Classes Préparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles (CPGE) are rigorous post-secondary programmes that prepare students for the competitive entrance examinations of France's grandes écoles. The PCSI track is a scientific stream in which physics, chemistry, mathematics, and engineering sciences form the main subjects of study. The first year of PCSI establishes strong foundations across physics, chemistry, and mathematics, with engineering sciences integrated throughout. Students solve demanding problems in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, organic chemistry, and related areas. The second year of scientific CPGE involves choosing a specialised track — typically PC (physics-chemistry) or PSI (physics and engineering sciences) — deepening the work toward specific competitive examinations. As a lycée de la défense operating under the French Ministry of Defence, the Ecole des Pupilles de l'Air provides a structured and demanding environment. All instruction is in French. Graduates who succeed in the entrance examinations enter engineering or science grandes écoles, where they complete master-level degrees. The CPGE years are not themselves a degree but provide intensive preparation for the most selective pathways in French higher education.
