Associate of Arts Degree in Creative Writing

This programme is for students who want to develop skills in writing poetry, plays, fiction, and other creative genres. Courses cover the theory behind these forms and include regular writing practice. The curriculum includes poetry, young adult writing, digital storytelling, and memoir writing. Students build a strong portfolio of their work.

Classes use a workshop model focused on peer feedback and active participation. This method improves critical thinking and revision skills. The programme takes four semesters and requires 60 credits. Students may join the optional Co-operative Education Program for paid, full-time work terms in their field. Planning ahead is needed to take part in co-op.

Admission is open at any time. The programme starts in Fall, Winter, and Summer. All 60 credits may be transferred to a bachelor's degree if students plan to move to a university. A minimum GPA of 2.00 is required. Half of the courses must be completed at Douglas College. The programme must be finished within seven years.
