Cultural studies is a master's programme taught in English at the University of Łódź in Łódź, Poland. The degree runs for four semesters, with the next intake starting October 1, 2026, applications due by July 20, 2026, and yearly tuition of 5500 EUR. This track, the Master's Degree in Women's and Gender Studies (GEMMA), gives graduates broad knowledge of international organizations, human rights, minority policies, and the functioning of mass media and its impact on socio-political life. Students develop an advanced, critical understanding of contemporary gender theories, learn to apply different theoretical perspectives to gender issues, and critically examine various standpoints and feminist empirical evidence through reasoned argument, while becoming aware of their own position as situated experts. Graduates are recognized as specialists in equal opportunity policies, particularly those enforced by the European Commission, and are prepared to apply such policies within the Polish context. This background allows them to contribute to projects funded by the European Community. The programme also includes practical coaching in applying for work at the European Commission, opening a path to positions there. Combined with fluency in English, both spoken and written, and the ability to bring together knowledge from different areas, graduates can also find employment in media organizations and institutions dealing with socio-cultural issues. Cultural studies as a broader field examines how societies produce and interpret meaning through media, institutions, and social practices, drawing on sociology, anthropology, and media studies to analyze cultural change.
