Dance Studies in Stavanger

The University of Stavanger offers a Bachelor in Dance. This is a three-year program. It leads to a certificate or diploma. The program is taught in English. It prepares students for professional careers as dance artists. It also prepares them for further artistic, theoretical, or pedagogical studies.

Programme Focus

The main focus is on modern and contemporary dance. Students develop artistic and dance-technical skills. The curriculum includes physical practice, artistic practice, and dance in context. Students engage in daily training, improvisation, and choreography. They also attend lectures and workshops. Guest artists choreograph performances each year. Students have many opportunities to perform.

Admission and Application

The program is taught in an international environment. Students receive individual attention from teachers. The study environment is interdisciplinary. Collaboration with music students is encouraged. In the fifth semester, students can undertake a study period abroad. Alternatively, they can complete an independent project. The Faculty of Performing Arts is located in Bjergsted Park. Facilities include dance studios and a black box theatre.
