Data Science is a major within Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology, providing training in the scientific methods used to extract knowledge from data and build models for complex problems in trade, industry, science, and technology. The field draws on mathematics, statistics, machine learning, information sciences, and computer science, and the major reflects this breadth while keeping a strong focus on foundational principles. Students build solid knowledge in mathematics, statistics, and computing, develop programming skills, and gain an understanding of machine learning, statistical analysis, and artificial intelligence and how these can be applied and extended. They also learn to manage large volumes of data and develop the analytical skills to work with complex, rapidly evolving methods throughout their careers. The programme emphasises foundational understanding alongside applied skills, so graduates are equipped not only to use existing techniques but to follow and engage with developments in the field over time. The combined bachelor and master path runs for five years, starting in September 2026. The programme is based at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland.
