Data science sits at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, and statistics, drawing on machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data engineering to extract knowledge and build practical solutions from large datasets. Applications span automated text and conversation analysis, intelligent search, data-driven insight into social and economic systems, medical and biological research, and autonomous systems such as self-driving vehicles. Tampere University offers three related specialisations within this two-year Master's programme. The Data Science (MSc) specialisation and the Statistical Data Analytics (MSc) specialisation both focus on computational and statistical algorithms for data mining and machine learning, with the Data Science option placing greater emphasis on algorithmic approaches. The Signal Processing and Machine Learning (MSc Tech) specialisation is oriented toward engineering accurate predictive models.
