Master in Data Science

For Master in Data Science, tuition costs 331 EUR per year.

Università degli Studi di Messina offers a master's programme in Data Science, delivered in English over two years in Messina, Italy. Data science is an interdisciplinary field that combines statistics, computer science, and domain knowledge to extract insights and build predictive models from large and complex datasets. Students in this discipline typically study subjects such as statistical modelling, machine learning, database systems, data mining, and data visualisation, alongside programming and computational tools used to process and analyse data at scale. Coursework often includes applied projects that require students to work with real datasets, developing practical skills in data cleaning, analysis, and interpretation alongside a solid grounding in the underlying mathematical and statistical theory. At the master's level, study generally moves from foundational statistical and computational methods toward more advanced machine learning techniques and specialised applications, usually concluding with a thesis based on an original data analysis project. Admission is open access, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent required for entry. Graduates of data science programmes commonly pursue careers as data analysts, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and business intelligence specialists, working across sectors including technology, finance, healthcare, retail, and the public sector. Others move into research roles or continue toward doctoral study in statistics, computer science, or related fields. The combination of statistical rigour, programming skill, and applied problem-solving developed through data science study is in wide demand across industries that increasingly rely on data-driven decision-making. Based in Messina, in Sicily, the programme is delivered in English, making it accessible to an international student body seeking specialised training in a field at the intersection of statistics, computing, and applied analysis.
