About Master in Département Décor

Tuition comes to 458 EUR per year, and applications are due 2026-01-14.

The Décor (Production Design) département is one of the seven specializations of La Fémis's four-year cursus principal. It is run by directors Anne Seibel and Nicolas de Boiscuillé and admits four students per intake through the concours général — the smallest cohort of the cursus principal (the other six départements each admit six).

The département trains production designers who interpret a screenplay and a director's vision to set the style and atmosphere of a film, working across aesthetics, space, architecture, colour, texture, framing and light, in close collaboration with the cinematographer and VFX supervisors. Training covers the practical realities of the role, including feasibility, budget, choice of locations (studio or practical), and artistic direction of visual effects.

Students work from sketches, illustrations, photographs, models and storyboards through to full sets, and are trained to lead a design team from concept to delivery on set.

English Test Requirement

Taught in French; French-language proficiency is mandatory for admission (exams and teaching are conducted in French). No English-language test required.
