Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

The Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) covers mechanics, thermofluids, materials and computer-aided design, preparing students for careers across advanced manufacturing, automation, biomedical engineering, composites and robotics with an emphasis on sustainable engineering practice. Business and humanities modules add interdisciplinary breadth to the core engineering curriculum. The three-year course opens with digital electronics, mechanics, engineering materials and thermofluids foundations, then adds industrial automation, building information modelling for MEP services, digital fabrication technology and railway systems, closing with an internship or internship-equivalent project. Graduates move into mechanical, manufacturing or automation engineering roles, or progress to engineering degrees; SP's planned intake for 2026 is 160 places, one of the largest at the polytechnic.
