Diploma in Optometry

The Diploma in Optometry trains students to assess and manage eye health through clinical practice and optical dispensing. Teaching combines classroom study of ocular anatomy and clinical optometry with supervised patient care at SP's Optometry Centre, and elective modules let students earn a Minor alongside the diploma. The three-year course builds from foundational science and ocular anatomy into clinical optometry practice, optical dispensing and a work placement that gives direct patient-facing experience, using vision-testing and dispensing equipment at the Optometry Centre for real patient interactions under supervision. Graduates can move into optometry and eyewear roles or progress to further study in optometry or related health sciences; SP's planned intake for 2026 is 55 places.
