About New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary was established in 1917, fulfilling a century-old Baptist vision to reach New Orleans and create a missionary training school. The school began as the Baptist Bible Institute through direct action of the Southern Baptist Convention. Today, NOBTS and Leavell College prepare students for ministry through academic study, mentoring, service, chapel, and spiritual formation.

Academic options span bachelor's and associate degrees, master's degrees, professional doctorates, and research doctorates. Students can choose from more than 40 master's degree plans, including the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts. The Global Mission Center provides a focus for mission preparation and sending. Its programs include intercultural studies, missiology, cross-cultural studies, international church planting, and a PhD in missiology. Fully online degrees are also available.

The campus is at 3939 Gentilly Boulevard in New Orleans, a major port city with people from across the globe. Students are encouraged to connect classroom learning with ministry and community service in the city, as well as participate in short-term international mission trips. Housing is available for eligible full-time students, including single students, married couples, and families. Options include on-campus units, with rates typically around half the cost of living in the city. Scholarships are available for full-time and part-time students at all education levels.
