The International Education Development Program, within the Division of Educational Sciences at Hiroshima University, is also offered as a master's degree, taught in English over two years with admission in October and April. Hiroshima University is a national institution located in Hiroshima, comprising 12 schools and 4 graduate schools, and it was selected as one of 13 universities for Japan's Top Global University Project in 2014 and one of 13 universities for the WISE doctoral education program in 2018. At the master's level, this program introduces students to the study of how education systems are built, reformed, and improved, with particular attention to developing countries and the connection between education and broader economic and social development. Coursework typically covers education policy analysis, curriculum development, teacher training systems, education financing, and comparative approaches to education across different countries. Hiroshima University has a long-standing focus on international cooperation in education, consistent with its founding principle of contributing to a diversified, free, and peaceful global community through education, research, and social contribution. Graduates of a master's program in international education development commonly pursue careers with development agencies, education-focused non-governmental organizations, government ministries of education, or research and academic institutions, and some continue toward doctoral study in education, applying their training to education policy and program design in Japan or in their home countries.
