Helsinki, Finland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Doctoral Programme in Multidisciplinary Research in Renewable Natural Resources integrates basic and applied research across agriculture, microbiology, food science, forestry, and their value chains. Research in the program spans scales from the molecular to the global, including socio-economic aspects and environmental policy contexts. The program is based at the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry and focuses on societally relevant challenges within its fields. Doctoral researchers carry out largely independent scientific work while collaborating within the research community. The program prepares graduates for careers in academic research as well as expert appointments in Finland and internationally. Graduating doctoral researchers are expected to be familiar with their research field and its social significance, capable of independently applying scientific methods and producing new knowledge, and equipped to critically evaluate existing scientific literature and communicate science to both specialist and general audiences. The program runs for four years beginning in September 2026 at the University of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland.
