Bachelor in Double Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering

The Double Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering is a 7-semester programme developed through a cooperation between Hochschule Wismar University of Applied Sciences and ITS Surabaya in Indonesia. The entire programme is held at ITS Surabaya, supported by four professors from Hochschule Wismar and guest lecturers from the international maritime industry. The Polimarin Semarang centre, established through cooperation between the German and Indonesian governments, also serves as a partner facility. The programme is designed to address demand for marine engineers with competencies in both shipbuilding and ship operation. The first two semesters provide a grounding in natural sciences and English. Semesters three through seven develop maritime technical management skills covering technical ship operational management, ship maintenance management, marine surveying, marine safety and environmental management, naval architecture for marine engineers, and basic engine room design. Specialised elective courses in semesters five through seven allow students to focus on contemporary areas of marine engineering practice, and students also gain exposure to German culture and language during this period. Practical experience is built through laboratory work and simulator exercises, and the programme closes with a bachelor's thesis and colloquium public to both contributing universities. Tuition is 2,300 EUR per year. Upon completion, graduates receive a bachelor's degree from both Hochschule Wismar and ITS Surabaya. Although administratively based at Hochschule Wismar in Rostock, the programme is delivered at ITS Surabaya in Indonesia.
