    About United States Military Academy

At West Point in New York, the United States Military Academy prepares cadets to become commissioned leaders of character committed to the Army Values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation. The Academy's identity is shaped by the motto "Duty, Honor, Country" and by the Long Gray Line, the community of West Point graduates who serve as leaders in and out of uniform. Character development extends beyond the Honor Code and is woven through the academic, military, physical, and leadership programs. The Academic Program balances physical sciences and engineering with behavioral and social sciences, giving cadets a broad curriculum intended to develop creative thinking and original expression. West Point offers 36 majors, supports 28 research centers, and has a 7:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Research provides context for classroom learning, while cadet and faculty work addresses military problems such as drone-feed encryption, weapon upgrades, tactical decision analysis, and the ethical assessment of lethal autonomous weapons systems. Students should expect an integrated 47-month cadet experience rather than a conventional college program. The Military Program develops a foundation in the American military ethic, Army core values, and individual and small-unit leadership. The Physical Program builds fitness, teamwork, and preparation for the demands of an Army officer. Admission is highly competitive, with selection based on academic ability, leadership, physical fitness, and character. Graduates receive a guaranteed $70K salary and 100% job placement according to the provided figures, while committing to leadership and service as Army officers and beyond.
