This program prepares students for licensure as elementary school teachers for grades 1-6. It focuses on pedagogical methods, child development, and includes extensive clinical experiences and practicums. Students are encouraged to add endorsements to broaden their teaching qualifications.

The program requires 55-56 credit hours in education, including coursework, multiple practicums, and a 9-10 credit student teaching experience. A minimum of 100 hours of clinical experience is also required before student teaching.

Prerequisites for student teaching include a minimum GPA of 2.8 in major/professional education courses and cumulatively, passing the Illinois Licensure Testing System Elementary content-area knowledge test, and clearance through a fingerprint and criminal background check.
