This program trains students to teach mathematics at the primary and lower-secondary level, combining mathematics coursework with pedagogy tailored to younger learners. Students study arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and basic statistics alongside educational psychology, child development, and instructional strategies suited to teaching mathematical concepts to elementary and middle school students. The curriculum places emphasis on how students learn mathematics, common misconceptions, and methods for building numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills from an early stage. Supervised teaching practice in schools gives students direct experience planning lessons, managing classrooms, and assessing student understanding of mathematical topics. The program also covers curriculum design and the use of teaching materials and manipulatives that support conceptual understanding in young learners. Graduates become mathematics teachers in primary and middle schools, and some continue into further study in mathematics education or educational sciences.
