Master in Engineering Technology for Strategy and Security

Tuition fees are 3,163 EUR per year.

Engineering Technology for Strategy and Security is a two-year master's program delivered in English at Università degli Studi di Genova, in Genova, Italy. This program combines engineering and technology studies with an emphasis on strategic and security-related applications, an area that draws on technical disciplines to address challenges in defense, critical infrastructure protection and organizational security. Typical coursework includes subjects from systems and technology engineering, such as sensors, communications and control systems, alongside courses addressing strategic analysis, risk assessment and the technological dimensions of security planning. Students often study how emerging technologies, including automation, robotics, cybersecurity tools and advanced materials, are applied in defense and security contexts, as well as the broader strategic and policy considerations that shape how technology is developed and deployed for these purposes. Coursework may also address intelligence analysis, crisis management and the engineering requirements of critical infrastructure such as transportation, energy and communication networks. Because the program bridges technical and strategic domains, students typically develop both engineering competence and an understanding of the organizational and policy environment in which security-related technologies are used. Graduates of programs in this area commonly pursue careers in defense and security agencies, engineering firms working on critical infrastructure or defense contracts, consulting roles focused on risk and security analysis, or public sector positions addressing national security and strategic planning. Some continue into further research in engineering, security studies or strategic studies. Genova, a major Italian port city, has historic ties to maritime industry, shipbuilding and logistics, which often provide relevant context for engineering programs addressing infrastructure and security. Taught in English, this master's program is intended for students, including those from outside Italy, who want to combine engineering training with a focus on strategic and security applications.
