Master in Environmental Challenges and Human Responses

Kaiserslautern, Germany Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

The Environmental Challenges and Human Responses programme is a cross-locational, research-based Master's degree combining basic research in environmental sciences with research on human-environment interactions. The programme covers complex environmental systems and how they relate to society and individuals, with methods courses equipping students to model these interactions and apply findings across disciplines including psychology, communication, economics, spatial planning, and civil engineering. The programme runs over 4 semesters starting in the winter semester. The curriculum includes seven compulsory modules: three basic modules covering environmental challenges with global impact, human-environment systems, and human-environment interactions; three methods modules covering inter- and transdisciplinary research, ecological community modelling, and social-ecological systems modelling; and an interdisciplinary research project. Additional components include an eight-week internship and individual studies. Students choose three elective modules from areas such as environmental psychology, environmental economics, urban and regional development, and urban water and resources management. The programme is taught at the Landau campus of RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau in Landau in der Pfalz.
