Environmental Engineering applies engineering principles to the protection and management of natural resources, covering water and wastewater treatment, air quality control, solid waste management, and environmental impact assessment. Students study the chemical, biological, and physical processes underlying pollution control and remediation, working through laboratory and design coursework that applies these principles to real engineering problems. The curriculum typically includes environmental chemistry, hydrology, and regulatory frameworks governing environmental protection. Graduates pursue careers in environmental consulting, water treatment facilities, government regulatory agencies, and infrastructure engineering firms, as well as further graduate study in environmental engineering or related fields. The program is offered in English at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, over a duration of 4 years.
