Master in Environmental Sciences (MSc)

The MSc in Environmental Sciences at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau is a research-oriented interdisciplinary programme combining environmental chemistry, geoecology, applied ecology, social sciences, and environmental economics. The goal is to develop students' depth of understanding and advanced methodological skills across the sub-areas of environmental science, from the molecular to the landscape scale. Human activities are treated as ecosystem components throughout the programme. The programme runs over 4 semesters starting in the winter semester and requires 120 ECTS in total. Five required modules provide a broad foundation in environmental sciences (28 ECTS). Students then choose nine elective modules (54 ECTS) from subject areas including environmental analysis, socioeconomics and environmental management, soil systems, chemicals in the environment, applied ecology, aquatic systems, landscapes and scales, and modelling. A six-week research and training internship at an external research institute or industry partner in Germany or abroad provides practical experience in the second or third semester (8 ECTS). The fourth semester is devoted to a six-month Master's thesis (30 ECTS). Students may also pursue the programme as a dual degree with Brno University of Technology in Environmental Sciences and Engineering. The programme is offered at the Landau campus of RPTU University Kaiserslautern-Landau in Landau in der Pfalz.
