About Master in Executive Master in Sports Medicine

Tuition fees for Master in Executive Master in Sports Medicine are 160,000 NOK for the whole program, and applications close 2026-09-01.

The Executive Master in Sports Medicine is a two-year, part-time (50%), fully online master's programme of 90 ECTS credits, exclusively for medical doctors who have completed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Diploma in Sports Medicine and have relevant work experience. Of the 90 credits, 20 are granted on the basis of the completed IOC Diploma, and the remaining 70 consist of 10 credits in statistics and methodology and a 60-credit master's thesis.

The programme is designed to be combined with professional work: there is no requirement for physical attendance at NIH, the statistics and methodology component is delivered online, and the oral defence of the master's thesis is also conducted online. The master's thesis is an individual assignment, though students may draw on parts of a shared dataset from a larger collaborative project provided their own contribution is clearly defined. The principal supervisor must be employed at NIH; each candidate must also have a local supervisor, holding a PhD and formally approved by NIH, affiliated with the project at the candidate's home institution or country. Applicants must submit an abstract of the planned project and proposed local supervisor within three months of admission, and must obtain any required ethical approvals before data collection begins. The thesis may be submitted as a monograph or as an article-based thesis.
