Introduction

Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) is a liberal arts and sciences college located in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China. Established in 2005, UIC is a joint venture between Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University. It offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of fields, including business, computer science, design, engineering, humanities, and social sciences.UIC is committed to providing a bilingual and interdisciplinary education that emphasizes creativity, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. About the Program

The principal aim of the Game Design Programme is to provide students with an education that prepares them for careers in the entertainment industry encompassing game production, animation and cinematics, architectural, medical and automotive industries, as well as for study in a diverse range of research and design disciplines, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and education. It will offer a broad training in theoretical knowledge and applicable skills in the field of game technologies and media, and provide students with fundamental education and training for future careers. Specifically, this interdisciplinary comprehensive training will encompass technical, scientific, and humanities aspects of game design. The Game Design Programme also aims to offer opportunities to students wishing to pursue a postgraduate education or to develop their own studios or businesses in the game design discipline related to the modern commercial and educational context.


Specifically, the Game Design Programme is designed to:

  1. Give students a solid foundation in the applications of game design through arts and technology, so as to strengthen their cognitive domain of this discipline in creative and entertainment industries;
  2. Provide a broad-based and yet deep education and training in game design so as to enable them to apply in practical fields while integrating their knowledge and skills to various related professions;
  3. Train students in problem-solving tactics through creative ways and skills for advancing game-related productions and solving professional issues; and
  4. Stimulate students to undertake their responsibilities to contribute their creative visions, professional

BNBU admission process follows the broad-based admission requirements. For their first year of studies, the incoming students interested in the Game Design programme should apply to the Journalism and Communications (JC). After admission to JC, the Game Design programme asks students to provide supplemental materials (usually their creative portfolio if possible) during the programme allocation in the first semester of year one studies.


Admission Requirements:

 

High School Graduation Diploma with one of the following:

• SAT: Minimum score of 1,190 (out of 1,600) in new SAT

• Advanced Placement (AP): Grade 3 in at least two AP subjects

• American College Test (ACT): Minimum composite score of 23

• Associate Degree (AD): Successful completion of one year's study in a full-time AD programme at a recognised US university/ community college, provided that the duration of the programme should be at least two years in full-time mode.

• Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) in community colleges: Successful completion of IGETC with Grade C or above in each of the subjects


English Language Requirements:

The following public examination results are recognised as meeting the minimum English Language requirements stipulated by the University:

1. TOEFL: Internet-based test (iBT)/iBT Home Edition / iBT Paper Edition - Score: 79; or

Paper-delivered test - a sum score of 60

(TOEFL MyBestTM Score is not accepted.)

2. IELTS Academic: Overall Band: 6.0

3. SAT: Minimum score of 590 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing in new SAT

4. ACT: Minimum score of 23 in both ACT English and Reading

5. AP: Score 4 or above in AP English Language and Composition/ AP English Literature and Composition

6. GCE O-Level/ GCSE: Grade C/ Grade 4 in English/ English Language/ English Literature

7. IGCSE: One of the following:  

Grade C/ Grade 4 in First Language English

Grade B/ Grade 5 in English as a second Language

8. GCE AS or A-Level English: Grade E in English

9. HKDSE: Level 3 in English Language

10. HKALE: Grade E in Use of English

11. IB: One of the following: 

Grade 4 in IB English A (Higher or Standard Level); or

Grade 4 in IB English B (Higher Level); or

Grade 4 in IB English Literature and Performance (Standard Level); or

Grade 5 in IB English B (Standard Level)

12. Cambridge English: Grade C in C1 Advanced/ C2 Proficiency

13. West African Senior School Certificate English: Grade C6 in English

14. Australia: Minimum of 80% or equivalent in Grade 12 English (Australian State or Territory High School Certificate Examination)

15. Cameroon: Grade C or above in English in Cameroon GCE Advanced Level or Grade C or above in English in Cameroon GCE Ordinary Level

16. Canada: Minimum of 70% in Grade 12 English Course

17. France: Score 12 or above in English subject in French Baccalaureat (OIB-British, American Options)

18. Germany: Grade 10 or above in English in Abitur

19. India: Obtaining at least 75% in Grade 12 English in SSC/ ISC/ All-India/ HSC/ Pre-University Certificate

20. Malaysia: One of the following:

Band 4 (Aggregated Score 180-219) or above in Malaysian University English Test (MUET); or

Grade C or above in STPM English Language; or

Grade C or above in SPM English Language; or Grade B4 or above in UEC-Senior English Language

21. New Zealand: 10 credits at level 2 or above in English Literacy on NCEA, made up of 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing

22. Singapore:  One of the following:

Grade C or above in H1 General Paper in Singapore-Cambridge GCEAL; or

Grade C6 or above in the English Language in Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-Level

23. Sweden: Grade C (old grade scale VG) or above in English in the Avgångsbetyg / Slutbetyg från Gymnasieskola

24. Zimbabwe: Grade C or above in English in Zimbabwe GCE Advanced Level

25. Others: Other English language qualifications deemed acceptable by the University

Situated in Zhuhai, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.
