Osh State University's International Faculty of Medicine (also referred to as International Medical Faculty) was established by decision of the OshSU Academic Council on 29 August 2015 as the newest addition to the university's professional education programs. Its stated goals are to train medical specialists qualified for practice both in the Kyrgyz Republic and abroad, to internationalize the university's medical education, to build partnerships with foreign educational institutions for student exchange, and to position OshSU among the region's leading medical education centers.

The faculty sits alongside OshSU's domestic Faculty of Medicine (which trains General Medicine, Dentistry, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery students in Kyrgyz/Russian). Osh State University overall is a large public university founded in the Soviet period, gaining pedagogical-institute status in 1951 and university status in 1992, currently enrolling more than 50,000 students and employing close to 4,000 faculty and staff, with cooperation agreements with 325 universities across 33 countries.
