Hacettepe University

Bachelor in Geomatics Engineering

Ankara, Turkey Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Geomatics engineering, historically known as map or surveying engineering, is the discipline concerned with measuring, mapping, and modeling the earth's surface and built environment. Students study surveying methods, geographic information systems, remote sensing, cartography, and geodesy, learning to collect and process spatial data used in construction, urban planning, and land management. Coursework combines fieldwork using surveying instruments and satellite positioning systems with computer-based analysis and mapping using geographic information system software, along with mathematics and physics courses that underpin measurement and data processing techniques. Graduates work as surveyors, geographic information systems specialists, and mapping engineers for government land and cadastre agencies, construction and infrastructure companies, and urban planning departments. Others apply their skills in environmental monitoring, disaster management, or the growing field of geospatial data analysis used across industries such as agriculture, transportation, and utilities. The technical measurement and spatial analysis skills developed in geomatics engineering also support further graduate study in geoinformatics or remote sensing. This 4-year bachelor's program is offered at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, with instruction in English. Ankara's role as a center for national mapping and cadastre institutions provides relevant context for coursework in surveying and geographic information systems. The English-medium format supports engagement with international standards and software commonly used in geomatics practice, preparing graduates for work with global positioning and mapping technologies. Hacettepe University's engineering faculty provides the instrumentation and computing resources needed for the fieldwork and spatial data analysis central to this program.
