About Bachelor in Geschichte Bachelor

Graduates from the Bachelor Geschichte programme at the University of Bamberg go on to careers in archives, libraries, museums, research institutions, publishing, media, political institutions, tourism, and adult education. This programme covers history from antiquity to the present, with a focus on methods and digital techniques.

The programme includes a compulsory internship in archives, museums, libraries, editorial offices, foundations, or political institutions, and offers opportunities for study abroad. The city of Bamberg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, provides a rich historical context for study. Students benefit from good supervision, current research projects, and the opportunity to study history in conjunction with other subjects.

The curriculum is designed to cover a broad range of historical periods, including ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary history, as well as supplementary perspectives such as economic and social history, education, historical sciences, and digital history. This programme is taught by the Zentrum für Mittelalterstudien (ZEMAS), a central scientific institution founded in 1998 that brings together around 80 medievalists from approximately 48 disciplines. The programme is led by Prof. Dr. Gesine Mierke, the director of ZEMAS.
