Chukyo University's Global Liberal Studies program is an English-based bachelor's degree in Aichi, completed over four years with an April start. Chukyo is a historic university with campuses in Nagoya and Toyota, at the center of Japan's Chubu region, and counts more than 140,000 alumni; it offers programs across the humanities and sciences, including English-taught degrees, alongside career support that begins from enrollment. A global liberal studies curriculum typically draws on multiple humanities and social science disciplines, including literature, history, philosophy, sociology, and international studies, rather than a single specialized major. Students usually take a broad foundation of courses before choosing electives aligned with their interests, developing skills in critical thinking, written and oral communication, and cross-cultural analysis. Programs structured this way often include seminar-style discussion, research writing, and opportunities to study global issues from multiple disciplinary angles, preparing students for careers or further study that value adaptability over narrow specialization. Graduates of liberal studies programs commonly pursue careers in international business, media, education, non-governmental organizations, government, and further graduate study across a range of fields, since the broad skill set built through a liberal studies degree transfers to many professional paths. The admissions process for this program, which allows a pre-interview in English as an alternative to a standardized test score, gives some flexibility to applicants whose English proficiency may not yet be reflected in a formal score. Being based in Aichi, within the Chubu region and close to Nagoya, places students near a major industrial and business area of Japan, complementing the program's global and interdisciplinary approach with practical exposure to a significant regional economy.
