About Master in Göttingen Master's Programme in Physics (MSc)

The application deadline is 15 Apr · 15 Oct.

The Göttingen Master's Programme in Physics offers students a broad research spectrum with flexibility in subject selection. Specialisation areas include astro- and geophysics, biophysics and physics of complex systems, solid state and materials physics, nuclear and particle physics, and theoretical physics. Students choose from over 60 research groups when completing their thesis, including groups affiliated with Max Planck Institutes and other research centres on the Göttingen Campus. The programme runs over four semesters. The first year consists of coursework in the chosen specialisation, including an introduction lecture, advanced lectures, seminars, and a practical component chosen from advanced lab courses, computational physics, or an internship in a research group or external institution. Subsidiary subjects allow students to deepen mathematical and natural sciences knowledge and optionally prepare for a semester abroad. The second year is dedicated to the Master's thesis, carried out within one of the ten university institutes or at a Göttingen Campus institution, with students fully integrated into a research group's activities. The programme accepts applications for both the winter and summer semesters, with separate deadlines for EU and non-EU applicants. The programme is located at the University of Göttingen in Göttingen, Germany.
