Artificial intelligence research focuses on developing algorithms and systems that can learn from data, recognize patterns, and make decisions with limited human intervention. Doctoral coursework in this field typically covers machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and the mathematical and statistical foundations underlying these methods, alongside training in how to design and evaluate new algorithms. Students learn to build and test AI models, analyze large datasets, and apply artificial intelligence techniques to problems across science, industry, and everyday technology. Graduates from doctoral programs in artificial intelligence commonly pursue careers as research scientists, machine learning engineers, AI product leaders, or university faculty conducting AI research. The Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) offers this doctoral program in Ulsan, South Korea, with a duration of eight semesters and admission in March and August. Instruction is delivered in English, enabling international doctoral students to pursue AI research without first needing Korean-language coursework, although some Korean is useful for daily life in Ulsan. As a dedicated graduate school, the program combines advanced coursework with hands-on research projects, and students are expected to complete an original dissertation contributing new algorithms or applications to the field, under faculty supervision. This program is intended for applicants who hold a relevant bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related quantitative field and want to pursue advanced research training in artificial intelligence at UNIST in South Korea.
