Human-Centered Design (M. Sc.)

Graduates with the Master of Science Degree in Human Centered Design go on to work in fields such as user experience design, digital transformation, and responsible design. The course includes a two-week prototyping sprint, methodical HCD foundation studies in a hybrid format, and intensive face-to-face classes on workshop design and moderation. The 3-semester program focuses on user research and AI, and students develop prototypes and test them with users, learning to make well-founded design decisions and implement innovations in a user-centered way.

Students work in interdisciplinary and hybrid teams, learning to communicate, moderate, and manage projects effectively. The program is designed for students who want to develop products, services, and digital systems from the perspective of people, researching needs, analyzing usage contexts, and designing solutions that are intuitive, meaningful, and sustainable. The blended learning format combines face-to-face classes, online teaching, and self-directed learning phases, allowing for flexible study.

Benjamin Pipus, a UX Designer at EnBW Energy Baden-Württemberg AG, highlights that the program also teaches leadership skills, which is crucial as designers often lack expertise in most companies. Diane Fuentes, a User Experience Professional at the Aalen University of Applied Sciences, notes the program's extensive toolbox of model-based methods for designing mechatronic systems. Thomas Ehrenhof appreciates the blended learning model, which adapts to his everyday life, enabling him to develop design skills without compromising his job or family.
