The University of Eastern Finland (UEF), formed in 2010 and located across Kuopio and Joensuu, is known for strong research in health, environmental sciences, and forest studies, as well as a broad portfolio of undergraduate and graduate programs. With a student community that values interdisciplinary collaboration, UEF offers study tracks in medicine, natural sciences, social sciences, business, and the humanities. Its regional campuses provide close contact between students and faculty and opportunities to engage in applied research addressing local and global challenges.

UEF fosters an international learning environment with research centres and partnerships across Europe and beyond, giving students access to exchange programs, joint projects, and internships. Teaching emphasizes evidence-based learning, small-group seminars, and lab-based training, while doctoral and master’s students can collaborate with research teams on funded projects. International students receive orientation, academic advising, language support, and integration services aimed at smoothing the transition to Finnish campus life.

Student life in Eastern Finland balances focused study with outdoor recreation, cultural activities, and community engagement, reflecting the region's strong connection to nature and sustainability. Career services and researcher networks assist graduates in moving into public sector roles, industry positions, or continued academic study. For prospective international students interested in research-led programs, environmental expertise, and a supportive Scandinavian campus experience, UEF presents compelling academic and professional opportunities.
