The programme runs over two years. In the first year you build a foundation in natural resource science, data collection and basic field techniques, while participating in a three-week fall field camp. The second year adds advanced topics such as GIS, remote sensing and resource-specific management, and includes a winter camp focused on survival and winter ecology.

Graduates find work as fish and wildlife technicians, forestry technicians, plant specialists or park rangers across Canada, employed by government agencies, First Nations, conservation authorities, forestry and resource companies, or private contractors. Many also continue to university degree programmes in environmental and resource fields.

The diploma is accredited by the North American Wildlife Technology Association, ensuring that graduates are recognised as qualified practitioners in fish and wildlife management.
