Bachelor in Intercultural Communication

Gdańsk, Poland Taught in English Open to international students

About the Program

Intercultural Communication is a bachelor's programme offered by the Faculty of Languages at the University of Gdansk, taught in English over three years with yearly tuition of 6000 PLN. Described by the university as a new course, it suits students who want to build knowledge and skills in the flow and management of information across language, literature, the arts, media, and culture. The programme develops the ability to communicate effectively in fluent English alongside conversational Polish, together with the soft skills needed for work in cultural and artistic institutions at both national and international level. Coursework also builds organisational skills relevant to teamwork and to designing, planning, and managing projects at institutions such as theatres, agencies, foundations, associations, and departments of culture within local government, as well as the skills needed to organise artistic events and festivals. Most subjects on the course concern culture, literature, and linguistics, guiding students toward an understanding of European literature and culture, English-language literature, twentieth and twenty-first century literature in English translation, and migrant literature written in English. Rather than focusing only on global English-speaking culture, the course also gives attention to the local culture of Gdańsk itself, a central European port city with a multinational history that is home to internationally recognised contemporary artists and writers. This local grounding, combined with the broader focus on intercultural and media communication, prepares graduates for roles in publishing, cultural management, media, tourism, and international organisations, as well as further study in language, culture, or communication fields at master's level.
