PhD in International PhD Program for Science

Tuition costs 112,040 TWD per year.

A doctoral program in science provides advanced training in scientific research methods, typically allowing students to specialize within a particular natural science discipline such as physics, chemistry, biology, or a related field, depending on the research area they pursue. Students in programs of this kind generally undertake advanced coursework in their chosen scientific discipline alongside a substantial independent research project, learning to design experiments, analyze data, and contribute original findings to their field. The training emphasizes the development of research skills, including experimental design, data analysis, scientific writing, and the ability to evaluate and build on existing scientific literature. This International PhD Program for Science is offered by National Sun Yat-sen University, located in southern Taiwan, at the doctoral degree level. Instruction is conducted in English, allowing international students to pursue doctoral-level scientific research without needing Chinese-language proficiency for coursework. Doctoral programs of this general type typically allow students to work with faculty across different scientific departments, tailoring their research focus to specific questions within the natural sciences. Graduates of doctoral science programs pursue careers primarily in academic research and teaching, working as faculty members or research scientists at universities and research institutes. Many also move into research and development roles within industry, applying their scientific training to product development, quality analysis, or technical innovation in sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals to materials and technology. Others take positions in government research agencies or scientific policy roles, where their research training supports evidence-based decision-making. The rigorous, independent research experience gained through doctoral study in science prepares graduates for roles requiring deep technical expertise and the ability to investigate open scientific questions, regardless of the specific discipline they pursue during their studies.
