Bachelor in International Physics Studies Programme (Honours)

The International Physics Studies Programme (Honours) at Leipzig University is an eight-semester Bachelor of Science programme delivered entirely in English. It covers the full spectrum of physics, from experimental and theoretical foundations through to advanced specialisation topics, and is designed for both international and German students seeking a rigorous scientific education. Core areas of study include experimental physics and laboratory work across mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat, electricity, magnetism, optics, atomic physics, molecular physics, soft matter, and solid state physics. Theoretical modules cover classical mechanics, electromagnetic field theory, special relativity, thermodynamics, introductory quantum mechanics, and statistical physics. Mathematics courses run alongside, addressing linear algebra, differential and integral calculus, sequences and series, and differential equations. Students choose advanced electives from areas such as semiconductor physics, photonics and quantum technology, soft-matter and biophysics, cosmology, quantum field theory, non-linear dynamics, materials science, or astrophysics. Non-physics electives including chemistry, numerics, and German language courses round out the degree, which concludes with a Bachelor's thesis. The programme begins in the winter semester. Graduates who complete it are invited to continue into Master's studies in physics or a related subject. The Faculty of Physics and Earth Sciences at Leipzig University is home to over 1,500 students from approximately 40 countries, and the programme is based in Leipzig, Germany.
