About the Program

International Security Management at HWR Berlin is a four-semester, full-time Master's programme taught in English. It covers the international dimensions of security through an interdisciplinary curriculum drawing on political science, international relations, criminology, law, psychology, risk and crisis management, policing studies, IT security, and economics. Class attendance is mandatory. The programme combines theoretical study with practical application in areas such as risk, crisis, and disaster management; the protection of critical infrastructure; and quality assurance in the security sector. Module topics include research and methodology, global security challenges, risk management and security regulation, ethics and normative approaches, cybersecurity and data protection, crime control, economic approaches and leadership skills, international conflict management, human rights and accountability, and electives on themes such as transport security, terrorism, or pandemics. The four phases of the programme move from introductory and specialisation coursework through a practical internship semester to a final research semester culminating in the Master's thesis. The programme starts in the summer semester and is based at HWR Berlin (Berlin School of Economics and Law) in Berlin, Germany.
