The programme emphasizes field-based learning and critical analysis of power, justice, and cultural diversity. Students build a regional or topical specialization through coursework and experiential learning.

Focus areas include Indigenous Studies, Third World/Global South, Global Studies, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The major requires 36 credits, including core courses, a social justice practicum, an Indigenous Studies course, language study, a study abroad experience, and advanced coursework in a regional or topical emphasis. A senior seminar and optional senior thesis are required for all majors.

Graduates enter careers in human rights organizations, community-based non-profits, social work, sustainable development, education, labor organizing, public service, and immigration advocacy.

Admission is based on academic interest and performance. Students must declare the major and meet with a CGS adviser to plan their course of study. No specific test scores or GPA thresholds are listed beyond the 3.5 requirement for honors.

The programme totals about 36 credit hours. On-campus with required semester-long study abroad; full-time typically takes four years. For international students, tuition is well above the median for US programmes. The institution admits about 17% of applicants.
