Graduates of the Level 7 Certificate in Introduction to Archaeological Interpretation often find roles as museum or heritage-centre guides, OPW site interpreters, or as general operatives on research and commercial excavations. The qualification also provides a solid foundation for further study in archaeology at Level 6 or 7 programmes.

The course is aimed at individuals who already hold a Level 6 qualification or have comparable lived experience, and who possess a basic grounding in archaeology. Over one year, students engage in fully online learning, attending two-hour weekly lectures per module and dedicating 5-6 hours per week to directed reading, discussions and assessments. Modules cover archaeological methods and theory, the role of animals in past societies, and landscape archaeology, with assessments comprising online tests and essays rather than formal exams.
