About Master in Language and literature studies (German)

This master's program in German Language and Literature Studies is delivered in English by the Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław, located in Wrocław, Poland, and runs full-time over two years, split into four semesters. It is offered in three specialisations: Specialised Translation Studies covering Polish-German and German-Polish translation, Teaching German as a Foreign Language, and a general specialisation that allows free choice among all available courses without a fixed professional profile. Seminars cover linguistics, applied linguistics, literary studies, and culture studies. Full-time students attend fifteen weeks of regular classes each semester, with classes usually scheduled across three days between Monday and Friday. Each September, students register online for their courses, selecting a seminar package from the available options in literature, culture, linguistics, translation, and teaching, and choosing whether some courses are delivered online or face-to-face. For the Specialised Translation track, a good command of both Polish and German is required, at a minimum of C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference. The program combines compulsory core courses with optional practice- or research-oriented modules and extracurricular courses; translation-track students must register for at least four full specialised translation courses, together worth at least twenty-four ECTS credits. After graduation, students can continue to third-cycle doctoral study or move directly into a professional career in translation or the wider language industry. The program aims to give students theoretical grounding and practice-based knowledge, positioning them for work as translators, language teachers, or specialists in cross-cultural communication involving German and Polish.
