Bachelor in Licence - Droit

Tuition costs 178 EUR per year.

Université de Caen Normandie offers a Licence - Droit in Caen, France, giving students a grounding in the French legal system and its underlying reasoning. Legal studies at the undergraduate level generally cover civil law, constitutional law, administrative law, and criminal law, along with training in legal methodology, including how to read and interpret statutes, regulations, and judicial decisions. Students work through case studies, commentaries on court rulings, and structured legal essays that require them to apply rules to specific factual situations. Because French law is organized as a codified civil law system, much of the coursework is built around understanding and applying the country's legal codes alongside constitutional and administrative principles governing public institutions. As the degree progresses, students typically choose among specializations such as private law, public law, business law, or international law, which shape the direction of further study. A law licence commonly leads to a master's degree in a chosen legal specialty, followed by professional training for careers as an avocat, notaire, magistrate, or in-house legal counsel. Beyond the legal professions themselves, the analytical and writing skills built through legal study are valued in public administration, compliance, human resources, and banking, where regulatory knowledge and precise reasoning are useful. This Licence runs for three years with a start date in September, and instruction is in French. The yearly tuition is 178 EUR. Students beginning this program in Caen should expect a heavy reading load and regular written assignments from the first year onward.
