The Licence in Information et communication, Documentation track, is a three-year bachelor's program at Universite Toulouse 2 Jean Jaures in Toulouse, France, taught in French. Information and communication studies as a discipline covers how information is produced, organized, transmitted, and received, spanning media studies, communication theory, and the more technical side of information management. The documentation specialization within this field focuses specifically on how information is collected, classified, stored, and made accessible, drawing on library and information science, archival practice, database management, and digital information systems. Coursework in a documentation-focused program typically includes information retrieval, cataloguing and indexing methods, records management, digital archiving, and an introduction to the legal and ethical dimensions of handling information, alongside broader communication courses covering media analysis and written and oral expression. Graduates of this type of program commonly work as documentalists, archivists, librarians, information managers, or records specialists in organizations such as libraries, museums, corporate archives, government agencies, schools, and media companies. Others move into related roles in knowledge management, digital content organization, or continue their studies with a master's degree in information science, archival studies, or library science to access more specialized or senior positions. The discipline suits students with an interest in organizing and preserving information as well as attention to detail and familiarity with digital tools. Instruction throughout the program is in French, studies begin in September, and the yearly tuition is 178 EUR.
