Bachelor in Licence - Lettres - Parcours Lettres classiques

The tuition fee is 178 EUR per year.

Classical literature and the ancient world form the heart of the Licence - Lettres - Parcours Lettres classiques (Classical Letters), a three-year bachelor programme at the Université de Lorraine - UFR Arts, Lettres et Langues, based in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, France. All teaching is in French. Classical Letters is one of the most intellectually demanding of the humanities disciplines, combining the study of Latin and ancient Greek with literary commentary and the history of Western thought from antiquity. Students read and translate authors such as Cicero, Virgil, Plato, and Homer in the original, while also studying French and European literary history and critical methodology. Courses in rhetoric, philosophy, and ancient history are common companions to the language and literature curriculum. Training in classical languages builds a strong foundation in grammar, etymology, and reasoning that carries across many fields. Graduates are valued for precision in written expression, analytical rigour, and cultural breadth. Career paths include secondary and higher education (teaching Latin, Greek, or French after further qualification), publishing and editorial work, heritage and cultural institutions, journalism, and research. Many students continue to a master's degree in classical studies, literary studies, or education. The programme begins in September and runs for 3 years. Yearly tuition is 178 EUR.
