Bachelor in Licence - Lettres

Tuition fees for Bachelor in Licence - Lettres are 178 EUR per year.

The Licence - Lettres (Degree in French Literature and Humanities) covers the study of French-language literature from its medieval origins to contemporary writing, alongside linguistics, rhetoric, and cultural history. Students develop skills in close reading and textual commentary, build comprehensive knowledge of major literary movements, authors, and genres, and strengthen their written expression in French through regular practice in different academic registers and genres. Beyond literary analysis, the programme incorporates broader humanistic perspectives including philosophy, cultural criticism, and the history of ideas, giving students conceptual tools for understanding the relationship between literature and the society that produces and receives it. Seminars and individual research assignments prepare students for postgraduate study while also building transferable skills in written communication, critical thinking, and the organisation of complex information. The degree also introduces methods of linguistic analysis, allowing students to understand how the French language works and how it has evolved over time, which deepens their ability to interpret and produce literary texts. Oral presentation and classroom discussion are part of the regular academic diet, developing confidence in articulating and defending interpretations. Offered at Université Savoie Mont Blanc in Jacob-Bellecombette, France, this bachelor-level degree runs for 3 years with all instruction in French. Annual tuition is 178 EUR and the programme begins in September. Graduates pursue careers in secondary and higher education, publishing, journalism, cultural administration, or communication, and many continue to master's programmes in literature, linguistics, or teacher preparation.
