Licence - Lettres (Bachelor in Literature and Humanities) is a three-year bachelor's program at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord in Villetaneuse, France. The field of lettres, or literary and humanistic studies, covers French language and literature alongside broader questions of textual interpretation, rhetoric, linguistics, and cultural history. Students typically study French literature across different periods from the medieval to the contemporary, engage with literary theory and criticism, study the French language and its structures, and may explore Latin or comparative literature. The program cultivates close reading, written argumentation, and the ability to engage with complex texts. Graduates enter careers in education, publishing, cultural mediation, journalism, writing, and the civil service, and many pursue master's degrees in literature, linguistics, teaching, or cultural heritage. All courses are delivered in French. The program spans 3 years, beginning in September, with yearly tuition of 178 EUR.
