A Licence Philosophie introduces students to the major traditions of Western philosophy — from ancient Greek thought through medieval scholastic philosophy, early modern rationalism and empiricism, Enlightenment philosophy, and modern analytic and continental currents — and trains them to read canonical texts closely, reconstruct arguments, and evaluate positions with precision and clarity. Typical subject areas include formal logic and epistemology, metaphysics, moral and political philosophy, the philosophy of language and mind, and the history of philosophy across its major periods. Students develop the capacity for sustained abstract reasoning and the ability to write and think clearly about difficult and contested questions.
