Bachelor in Licence - Philosophie

Philosophy at university level is the rigorous study of fundamental questions about knowledge, existence, ethics, rationality, language, and the nature of reality. A Licence Philosophie introduces students to the major traditions of Western philosophy — from ancient Greek thought through medieval scholastic philosophy, early modern rationalism and empiricism, Enlightenment philosophy, and modern analytic and continental currents — and trains them to read canonical texts closely, reconstruct arguments, and evaluate positions with precision and clarity. Typical subject areas include formal logic and epistemology, metaphysics, moral and political philosophy, the philosophy of language and mind, and the history of philosophy across its major periods. Students develop the capacity for sustained abstract reasoning and the ability to write and think clearly about difficult and contested questions. They also learn to present and defend arguments in oral discussion, a skill that transfers well to legal, political, and managerial careers. These competences translate into a wide variety of professional paths: teaching, law, public policy, journalism, publishing, ethics and compliance roles in organisations, and civil service positions. Graduates who continue to postgraduate level often specialise in moral philosophy, political philosophy, or philosophy of mind and language. This Licence Philosophie is delivered at Université de Caen Normandie in Caen, France, over 3 years from September. Teaching is entirely in French. Annual tuition is 178 EUR.
